Vehicles, Urban Economy and Urban Health in Ghana
Abstract
This paper discusses the dilemmas faced by large city-centers in Ghana in the face of increased motorization and large vehicular volume on the one hand and the air quality standards on the other hand. It explores the thin line between economic opportunities and the myriad of social risks in the use of second-hand vehicles in Ghana and which culminated in a memorandum submitted to the parliamentary sub-committee on finance in Ghana. The submission resulted in the modification and amendment of vehicle importation law in Ghana in 2002.
